Gregory Wilson - PhD Student and Nature Photographer
I am a Plant Biology PhD Student at NC State University Co-majoring in Biological Sciences. I embarked on this PhD journey because of an insatiable appetite to learn about plants and pollinators and a desire to take actionable steps to positively impact Earth's overwhelming biodiversity loss.
As a co-major I am fortunate to be affiliated with the Labs of both Dr. Alexander Krings and Dr. Rebecca Irwin, which focus on historical ecology and pollination ecology respectively.
My primary research project is funded by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture in partnership with NC State University Enrichment Grant and is focused on the impact of various forest management practices in different forest-cover types adjacent to Picture Creek Diabase Barrens, a piedmont prairie in Butner, NC.
Prior to starting a PhD program I served as the Environmental Sciences Academic Advisor at NC State University for 5 years and a high school environmental science teacher through Teach for America before that.
My love for nature and interest in ecology has its origins in gardening with my mother and grandfather and summer road trips with my family to National Parks across the US.
In my spare time I am an avid gardener, nature photographer, and carpenter. I live in Raleigh with my wife, Corinne, and Australian Shepherd, Tupelo.
